Cuba’s new found freedom – PCs and blogs
May 3, 2008
You can now buy a PC in Havana. I wonder what Hemingway would have said to that after one of his (in)famous binges at El Floridita.
I also wonder whether Castro & Co. know what they’ve really done. Open the sluice gates of communications and it’s impossible to shut them again. Blogs like Generacion Y and others suggest that long before PC’s and mobile phones were legit, some Cubans were using the web to question the status quo. This will now only grow.
Cuba 2.0 will be an interesting social, political and economic experiment to watch. How different will it be I wonder to Fidel’s omnipresence in the past, now fast fading?

Looking at this, Vodafone’s vision of the future of mobile phones seems almost conservative.
I wonder what the miniaturization and ubiquity of these digital devices will mean for peacebuilding?
