Friend and mentor Colin Rule recently participated in a USIP organised discussion on new media and political movements worldwide. The C-SPAN video of the session is now up. Colin’s comments are very interesting, and not just because he mentions Groundviews at the beginning of his submission!
Beyond his comments on new media per se, Colin also refers to what is a tremendously interesting development in the form of UNCITRAL’s desire to create a global online dispute resolution system, with domestic enforcement, for low dollar value transactions. It is ambitious and fraught with technical, jurisdictional, legal, cultural and other challenges, but as Colin succinctly notes, this foundation is vital for the resolution of disputes arising out of online commerce (leave aside the growth from international mobile commerce).
Something to watch closely on Colin’s blog at Stanford, if only for technologies, policies and practices that can deeply influence the design and implementation of ICTs for peacebuilding and conflict transformation.
