I delivered this presentation to the Sri Lanka College of Journalism as part of a lecture series aimed at mid-career journalists from mainstream print and broadcast media in Sri Lanka. Since the focus of this class was on leveraging new media to keep a tab on the pulse of current affairs, I concentrate more on how to tap into the likes of Twitter streams, Facebook groups, RSS feeds and Google Reader with custom news feeds and email alerts.
I also focus on the curated Twitter lists of Groundviews (for bloggers and mainstream news feeds), and explain online content curation as a process akin to selecting good produce at the supermarket or Sunday pola.
I also focus on the veritable goldmine of content in audio and video form available through iTunes University, as well as through podcasts.
